Raising Local Housing Allowance

We the undersigned petition the council to On behalf of Helping Hands Project we request that the local housing allowance is raised as it currently isn't fit for the local market and pushing families away from BCP aswell as putting many people at risk of being homeless.

We would like to start a petition for our local council to raise the Local Housing Allowance rate.

Currently there are next to zero 2/3 & 4 bedroom private properties available in BCP that are affordable to those that live here. Due to the out dated allowance cap that is not fit for the current market.

With more and more people forced to claim universal credit due to low incomes and loss of jobs that means less people are in a financial position to afford the excessive top ups leaving them vulnerable and at risk.

This would mean less people at risk of homelessness and more people able to lift themselves out of being homeless.

By doing so it would also relieve alot of pressure for the council giving you more time and resources for those most at risk. Aswell as save you alot of money by not having to provide so many temporary provisions!!

I would really appreciate everyone's support with this as I feel it would make a huge difference to so many!!

Currently the local housing allowance for a 2 bedroom property is around £650pcm with the average property being around £1100pcm. The local housing allowance on a 3 bedroom property is around £850pcm with the average property being around £1300pcm.

The basic rate of universal credit is approx £350pcm making it impossible for families to afford any rent top up.

Please consider this petition as we feel it would benefit many in our community greatly.
