Food waste that is sent to landfill doesn’t harmlessly breakdown. It has a big impact on the environment as it rots and releases methane – a harmful greenhouse gas that is 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide.
BCP Council currently have no plans at all to roll-out a kerbside food waste scheme across Poole, despite residents in Christchurch and Bournemouth benefiting from this initiative and the infrastructure being in place for processing etc.
With the Government commitment to all households having food waste collections by 2023, it seems that there needs to be a plan in place for Poole if this target is to be reached: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-plans-unveiled-to-boost-recycling
BCP Council could be leading the way on environmental policy. Residents of Bournemouth and Christchurch already have kerbside food waste collections, so why not Poole residents too?
